Today I had the privilege of preaching @ Life Church- this morning I shared my heart from my past,present and future and related it back to the past of Jesus and the future with Jesus).
I wanted to share how God uses our past to develop our future to impact His Kingdom.

I wanted to express how much God wants us to cry out to Him when were in time of crisis and in times of despair. God has allowed us to play a part in His Kingdom growth here in Rome, we cannot take a single day for granted.
The opportunity is there for you! It is as easy as investing in 5 friends.
If you will share your "story" with 5 of your friends, Rome and Floyd county could be drastically changed in a matter of weeks.

Tell your story-
Tell them about Jesus-

My friends,

I am very excited to share with you that God has called me, and my family to serve on staff at Life Church in Rome GA-

This is a step that God has been preparing me for over the last few years.
I am so grateful first and foremost that God would choose to use me in such a way.

I am extremely grateful for one of my best friends in the world (Jarrod Roberts) for choosing to invest in me and guide me in my mistakes and oversights in the ministry and mentor me into a leader. He took the time to watch me go from selfish and un willing to giving it all to God and being prepared to be used. Gina and Craig have shared so much as well in the developing process and I count it a Joy to have been a part of the team. XL- I love you! I will continue to pray that God continues to bless and grow you!

For my family, Thank you for praying with me and for me. Thank you for confirming God's call in my (our) life. Thank you for your wisdom, endless praying, seeking of sound scripture and confirmation of God's calling.

This Sunday I will be teaching at Life Church and sharing from my heart on a subject that is very close to my heart and will be following the Spirit in His direction in a message of Hope for those "Far From God" as well encouraging "Christ Followers" that are ready to commit to Giving Life to those around them.

The mission of LIFE Church is to live life through a love relationship with God and to give life to others who haven't found it. Simply - living life and giving life.

Our mission is based on The Great Commandment:

Luke 10:25-28 (NASB)

And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying. "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit life? And He said to him, "What is written in the law? How does it read to you?" And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself." And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; Do this and you will live." (emphasis added)

This passage can be summarized like this:

Well it is Wednesday and it has been one busy week! I have been following a few blogs and studying the Word and it is cool how this thought came to mind-

Is XL a "New Idea" a "New" kind of church? Or is it exactly what Jesus did during his time on earth!! I can tell you this has been one of the best studies I have done yet!

Thoughts before the point-
-Xl- Connecting people to a God that has a great plan for their life
-God chooses to use people
-Christianese, a language "Christians use"
-The Southern Seminary dropped Traditional School of Music, get this - They say people are looking for something different....imagine that.
-You can find God at your own pace, just remember time is ticking
-I can't stand Face Book

Jesus came to seek and save that which is lost....(The mission of Jesus Christ)

That's not doing what everyone else does, that's not doing programs, that is simply following Jesus Christs example of doing church. Large crowds came to follow Him. Jesus hung out with drunks, tax collectors, lepers.....non-religious people.
(those far from God)

Xl is all about reaching people far from God-

Not so much- The Word is the same! The music sounds different however we still exist to reach those far from God-

I can't believe it is already May. Time seems to be flying by these days.

God is doing some pretty cool things these days and I am excited about where He is taking us! Here is a statement I want to throw out there for you-

This is our one and only chance to fight for the Lord! Our only shot in Life where we get to do battle for Christ- When I pass away I will be in Celebration mode- Like they say in the Army- Be all that you can be..... Are you fighting for Him or fighting your schedules?

So the more I work through 21, the more I hear about the various things people are giving up and overcoming. The one thing that is resounding is people sharing these things with others.How cool is it that some people wouldn't even pray around others and now they are telling everyone what God is doing in and around them.

I wish I had prophetic things to share with you but the thing God keeps telling me is to remain faithful to what I have committed to doing and remain focused.

Sure great things are going on, yes I have given up some things and could have, should have given up others but He is in control. He is directing, pruning, teaching and showing me things I have not looked at with His eyes in years.

I would love to make public all He has done and is still doing but for now- Here are a few verses.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, but for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8

A man's pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.Proverbs 29:23

I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me -- the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.Acts 20:24

1st things 1st

So blogging on a daily basis isn't going to happen!
I can tell you that a few of my friends are having a life change-
My kids are really learning about giving up something for God to show them something and I know that in the end GROWTH will happen!

I find myself wanting a steak or a double cheese burger less and less-

I like what Jarrod said to me the other day in one of my meetings as I was telling him about my headach and hunger pains even though I was eating very healthy. "If we cant get full on the "good for us food" and be satisfied, then the other junk has really altered us" I can assure you a STEAK is in my future but for now, keep learning and growing!

2nd note- So the first softball game for Christina was 32 degrees with sleet-ice-snow & rain in April, what will tonight bring?

Am I Prudent.....in the way I see myself, I can think of some words but Prudent wouldnt have been on the list.
Today was good, it wasnt a kick me in my teeth kinda day but I can feel one of those days around the corner.

Water for Breakfast and Lunch, Veggies and a very small portion of White Meat for dinner, thats the plan- Lots of praying and reading of the Word, remember that fasting without prayer is a diet and I am NO FAN of any kind of DIET.

I will be praying for you as I hope you will for me- Together we will all be so much stronger and closer to Him in 21 days. Remember you can be FREE from the junk- It may take time but I do believe God will show off like crazy in April

We will walk through what it means to be Numb- You have all seen the teaser for the month so let me encourage you to simply Invest & Invite. If you will take the time to ask a few questions about how someone is doing and be real with them they will open up to almost anything you have to say!

Just yesterday I had the opportunity to share with, get this, 6- 26 year old men that were at the service station filling up their motorcycles- a brief opener about how nice the bikes looked allowed me 5 minutes into their lives. In 5 minutes they told me how much they despise the traditional Christian.....not so much the church but the people in it. It made me think to myself again why we do what we do! These dudes are willing to give it another chance but you know......

We have exactly one shot at these guys! One "Christian" having an off day and these dudes are done for good-

Can I encourage you for a moment? Sunday Night, bring your A game. Not only this Sunday but every day. Remember why we do, what we do, @ XL and remember to check Self at your parked car (on the last row)....better yet, leave Self @ home and come ready to out serve!

You all know how much your needed and exactly how much we appreciate you and your willingness to give up a Sunday evening to serve so that that 26 year old can have the opportunity to find Jesus right where they are.

Do you remember how you felt the first time you came to XL-? Re-Create that experience so that anyone that gives us that first shot will be willing to return.

Let me first start by saying we had a great time this morning @ WRBC. We are all excited about where God is taking us and how He plans to use each of us to work His plan in our lives-

Tonight @ XL we had a great crowd and heard the vision for XL and WOW was it good! If you have been away for a while and wondered when would be a good time to find your way back let me go ahead and tell you, it's this next Sunday night.

I am going to quote a few lines of an article I read today.
We all know that at Xl we are all about reaching Men.....so read and enjoy!

I always thrived in my congregation but was never certain I fit the mold of masculinity I saw modeled around me. So as much as I resent this sentiment, it nevertheless rings true: In many churches, a certain type of man is conspicuously absent.

GodMen, a ministry that provides space in which "men can be men; raw and uninhibited; completely free to express themselves in the uniquely male way that only men understand." .......included videos of karate fights, car chases, and songs like "Grow a Pair!"

We've been beaten down
Feminized by the culture crowd
No more nice guy, timid and ashamed …
Grab a sword, don't be scared
Be a man, grow a pair!

It's not sung to the tune of "In the Garden."

The message of Church for Men and is resonating with ministers of all stripes. .....he geared his entire ministry toward reaching young men. And while his ministry is not to men in particular, ..., pastor of ....., nevertheless desires greater testosterone in contemporary Christianity. In .... opinion, the church has produced "a bunch of nice, soft, tender, chickified church boys. … Sixty percent of Christians are chicks," he explains, "and the forty percent that are dudes are still sort of chicks."

The aspect of church that men find least appealing is its conception of Jesus. .... put this bluntly in his sermon "Death by Love" According to ...., "real men" avoid the church because it projects a "Richard Simmons, hippie, queer Christ" that "is no one to live for [and] is no one to die for." .... explains,
"Jesus was not a long-haired … effeminate-looking dude"; rather, he had "callused hands and big biceps." This is the sort of Christ men are drawn to—what ...... calls "Ultimate Fighting Jesus."

What a great Sunday! We had a great service Sunday morning and it was a privilege to have been able to share God's word at XL Sunday night. I spoke on Addiction and how God's plan of escape is way better than our plan- Yes there is Freedom in Jesus Christ! Isn't it great to know that when your ready to get out, He is there with His arms outstretched waiting to hold you-

John 21 4-6
Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.
He called out to them, "Friends, haven't you any fish?" "No," they answered. He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

In John 21, their Lord had been crucified and Peter, along with some of the other disciples had gone back to fishing. This is what they knew best prior to Jesus’ ministry.

Sometimes we get impatient, waiting for something we know God has promised. We go back to what we were good at, only to find it’s just not the same.

When you have tried everything and when you have no options left. When you’ve fished all night and caught nothing.
When you say Jesus, I have nothing, it is in that place where we come to the end of ourselves and begin to discover Him.
Like the disciples, we too find Jesus waiting on the shore. Not only waiting but also with fish on the Grill.
Jesus is always waiting for us with just what we need-no matter where we’ve been, no matter what we’ve done.
What a good God we serve.

At XL we know that we are to "Connect people to God......that has a GREAT plan for their lives."

How do you Connect People?
What is His GREAT plan?

I would love for you to take some time today and think of 2-3 people that you can "connect with". I am wondering....What if we all invested in 2?

Spend some time alone with God and ask Him to help you invest in 2-3 people today. You don't have to know all the answers- Trust me on this one! People just want to be connected. Think about MySpace and Face Book- Why would they sign up to allow the World to see their business- because they want to be connected.

So help them, Help them Connect to God.....That has a GREAT Plan for their lives!

Remember it only takes a few minutes to start the initial investment in someones life!

Invite and Expect

We have a really big night planned for Sunday. I am asking each of you to invest this week in someone you know that isn't a Christian. I can assure you that if you will invite a friend or co worker they will again be exposed to the truth. The Truth that God loves them no matter where they are in life and how bad things seem to be that He loves them and desires a relationship with them.

The Drama team will be presenting something that will make you as a Christian think....where do I stand in my faith and it will make non-Christians wonder why they have yet to start a relationship with Jesus!

Today I am asking you to Invite and Expect for God to change lives Sunday night.

Start praying for God to show you people to invest in this week and then you make the extra effort to get them to XL- Don't wait for them to show, go pick them up!

For the last few months two hospitals have been reviewing my equipment for purchase. This equipment allows Orthopaedic Surgeons to see inside the joint and assists them in many ways.
I have proposed for them a video tower, shavers, pumps and HD monitors. If this goes through it will assist me in meeting a quota that is otherwise unattainable.

This could also be the one thing that allows me to focus more time on volunteering as well. With this equipment in place it works for me when I am not there.

Please pray that if this is God's will that it be done.

As you all know by now, the inmates here at One Flew take great pleasure in hearing the stories of people touched by and working in non-traditional and even irregular ways to spread the Gospel and make disciples. So I thought I'd share an interview with my little brother, Matthew Burnham. He is a volunteer at an irregular church here in our hometown and has really brought me a lot of smiles and even a few laughs with the stories that he has shared about a wonderful place called "XL Wired". Yep, that is the name of the church. Ok, I better quit using "that nasty C-word" when describing "XL". It has been a long time since Matt and I were in a fight and to be honest he doesn't fight fair and I'm too old to be getting my butt whipped by my brother. I'll leave all the getting whipped stuff to Joel and just let you read about XL for yourself.

OFOTC: I know that XL Wired has had a big impact on you and many other people. Tell us a little about XL - what it is, how it works, how it is different than your standard church.
MB: XL Wired is simply a church for people that don't like or have been turned away from a traditional church. We don't have any stand up, sit down, straight laced rules.If you feel like standing, go for it. If not, then don't. We also don't pass an offering plate. It is totally up to you if you want to donate or not. They just want to help you get connected to God.

OFOTC: What is the allure that draws people to XL that aren't "The Usual Suspects" for "Traditional Church"?:
MB: The thing that gets people is they want to know what people mean by saying XL is a church that's not really church. All we are really told to say is that its not "CHURCH". I have been asked if we handle snakes or start fires to burn out the evil spirits. The only answer that I give people that ask me that is why don't you just come and see. If you like it, we would love to have you. If not, we may not be for you and that's fine. We have a full coffee bar, slushy machine and all the free Coke products you can drink. What more do you need?

OFOTC: Tell us a little bit about how you came to be involved at XL Wired.
MB: I didn't really have a choice. Once I started going I was so pumped, I knew I needed to be a part of it. It's a great place to be a volunteer, to get to know and help people.

OFOTC: Tell us about a typical service at XL:
MB: XL doesn't do anything typical. Our speaker has preached from a casket. Everything is done in series format. We do different stage sets and themes every couple weeks.

OFOTC: Ok, you can't just say that your speaker preached from a casket and expect me to say, "Oh, that's pretty cool" and move on to the next question. What was it that got a minister in a casket to preach a message? What was that theme?
MB: See, that's the whole point of XL. I said that and it made you think. The point of him doing that was to show people that you never know when you will get your last chance to give your life to the Lord. He was carried to the stage with Hells Bells playing in the background and he did the whole service in the casket. It was amazing, a lot of lives changed that night.

OFOTC: In what way(s) have you benefited from XL in a way(s) that you feel the mainstream church could not have?
MB: Well being turned away from a couple of "traditional churches" because of the way I looked and the way I dressed put a big wedge in my faith. XL lets you be you. People at XL don't care where you have been or how you have lived your life, they are just happy to see you and will make you feel welcome. I have been going for just over two years now and I have never seen anyone turned away.

OFOTC: Has XL caught a lot of flak from the more traditional churches in the area?:
MB: When XL first started out we had a lot of problems from churches and people in the area. People didn't see it for what it really is. We had the cops called to us, we had people post very stupid pictures in the newspaper and rumors were really holding us down. All we had to say to these people was "just come on by and check us out and see what we are really about". As time went on, things changed and people found out XL was doing a great thing and the pictures in the newspaper got a lot better and our project was growing.

OFOTC: Tell us the story about the man who showed up drunk and had to be helped inside:
MB: One night several of the volunteers were standing around the back door welcoming people as they came in. This guy walks up to the door and tries his best to get into the building. As he's falling into the door, two of the guys catch him and realize he's drunk. They helped him to the back row of seats and sat there with him. They could have turned him away, but instead they welcomed him in and sat with him the whole time and then after the service was over one of the guys took him home because he didn't want him driving.That man came back many times but I never saw him drunk again.

OFOTC: What's this I hear about a motorcycle "club" showing up at XL?:
MB: We had a great turnout on Sunday, August 10th. XL gave a motorcycle ride for our annual "XL Gives Back" event. We had members of The Freedom Seekers of Rome come out and lead the ride and these guys did a great job. We also had members of Low Profile of Rome (Low-profilemc.com) and some guys from Servants Of Last Chance Ministries (Lastchanceministries.com) also came out to help. All of this was to raise money to remodel a home in our town for someone who really needs it. Everyone involved did a great job and we will be looking to go even bigger and better next year. Just so everyone knows, these guys didn't just come for the ride, they stayed and listened to the message as well.

OFOTC, I remember seeing a poster about a HALO 3 tournament at XL a while back, what was that about?:
MB: The HALO 3 tournament was a way to get another group of people in the door. The way it worked was just like any tournament. We had teams sign up and if your team made it to the final round, it was an all for one playoff. The winner got a brand new XBOX 360. We did a service with a great message that wound up bringing a couple people to know God. The whole point of XL doing things like this is so we can get people to check us out, all we want is to get you in the door.

OFOTC: Do you have any advice to anyone that might try to start a ministry such as XL or that might like to minister to the "XL kind of folks" in their area?:
MB: I hope that you know how to pray. We have a lot of great people who have volunteered money and time but it takes so much more to stay up. Our volunteers don't spend much time with their families and they all have regular jobs that they already do on top of them helping us. Another thing is that you can't give up. These people really need you and if you are willing to try this then someone will listen. You just have to find them and grab their attention and don't let go. After that happens, its no longer up to you. It's between that person and God. Just remember: one saved soul will open the door for other lost souls to get closer to God.

OFOTC: What have you learned from the people you have worked with while serving at XL?:
MB: I have a couple of things that really stand out. One is that people from all walks of life are one in the same at XL. We have ex-drug addicts, ex-alcoholics, ex-cons and we even have people that have always lived their life for the Lord. The second thing is one that is always talked about at XL. The main thing with XL is getting the point across that God has a plan for your life and, believe it or not, it is better than yours. Every now and then the Pastor and or leaders from West Side Worship center will call and ask me to preach on Friday night.
So this Friday night was pretty cool, after teaching on being separated from God due to Sin- there were 9 youth that gave their life to Christ! That part of Friday night was GREAT!

I turned 37 and last night felt like 97! We decided to have a few of Corbett's friends over for his very belated B-Day party. We had a Camping party in the back yard complete with Fire, Smores and Mosquito's!

3 out of 8 fell asleep at 1:30 am or so, the others never slept! All the kiddos were picked up by 10 am and I bet they all fell asleep as soon as they got home. Corbett slept from 10 am till 5 pm! Do you think he will be up all night again? yea.....I think so!

Doing God's Will

The Problem

Time management is one of the biggest problems most men have.
The time management problem is less a tips and techniques problem than it is a strategic problem.
The real issue is a clear understanding of God's purpose for our lives, living by Biblical priorities, and making plans which reflect God's will for our lives.

Discerning God's Will

I tell God what I am going to do. "To man belong the plans of the heart" Proverbs 16:1.
God responds. "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails" Proverbs 19:21.
I beg God to let me do it anyway. "All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord" Proverbs 16:2.
Finally, I humble myself and listen. "Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed" Proverbs 16:3.
God tells me what He is going to do. "The Lord works out everything for His own good" Proverbs 16:4.

Efficiency Versus Effectiveness(taken from my "sales life")

Efficiency is doing the job right.
Effectiveness is doing the right job right.
When we live as though all of life is spiritual -- which it is -- we translate the will of God into the minutiae of our lives where it belongs.

Hard Work

The best time management tip of all is not to be so serious about ourselves and the importance of our contribution to our success.
Hard work is a virtue -- it has dignity -- when it is part of a balanced schedule.

Things That Last

The cardinal time management question is this: Are you doing anything with your time that has the potential to last forever?
Often we don't share our faith with others because we fear we will offend them and they will dislike us. The truth of the matter is that half of the people in the world aren't going to like you anyway, so they might as well not like you for the right reason. HA, HA now that's a Floyd-ism!

Well this is sort of like Einstein- You know they say he waited 3 years to speak........then he said there wasn't anything important to talk about, or something like that.

So here we are at Floyd's Blog. I have sat back for 30 days to watch! 30 some days of no blog, no "major" interaction with XL'ers or WRBC'ers. I was curious if I could just slip away.

I had 2, and I am serious just 2 people call me out on this.
1. Thank goodness that it didn't go un noticed
2.You would be shocked at what you see when your looking for something.

See for over 2 years now I have been on the sideline of a ministry that I knew God had firmly placed me in. I have had a hard time finding my place there!
(I am the head counter, the guy that counts the cars in the parking lot then the people in the main room and let's not forget the table for Jarrod.
I got very excited about serving in Groups- well that seems good and all but it (speaking about my involvement), stopped almost as soon as it started- I also asked to be plugged into the creative meetings to see if there was a need.....Those can be some funny meetings! )
I have yet to be able to understand what it is that God is needing me for there!
It has been said by some, If you want to know what's going on ....ask Floyd. I have enjoyed the occasional singing with the band and loved the Sermon on XL Groups. I just don't know what is next. I know God's got a plan.

So, back to what you can see if your looking-
I saw people milling around week end and week out as if they had something to do but were not really doing anything. I saw some getting so stressed that they were wondering too if they should be looking for other areas to serve- I saw people with specific jobs to do that couldn't do their job....because they were doing someone duties.

Don't get offended- This isn't about you, it's about me! It is about me trying to find out why God wouldn't let me slip through the cracks.

Then I start to hear....over the 30 days, people are wondering the same thing about their own life. Wondering what it is that they can be used for. Wondering if God can even work through them. Some even talked about how bad they were in their past that they could never be used by God- They would always be the church attendee not a leader......So now after hearing and seeing this I look to the Word, which is where I should have started in the 1st place-

Hang with me, this gets good!

See the Lord takes this man named Saul, saves him by grace, and transforms him into the great Apostle to the Gentiles and I realize that there is hope for people like you and me to be used by the Lord in many ways

The truth is, Saul was a very unlikely candidate for the service of the Lord. Here was a man who was feared and hated by Christians and one who did everything in his power to destroy the name of the Lord Jesus. Yet, God reached down in grace and took this man
from where he was and used him to change the world.
God used him in such a great manner that Paul's ministry is still reaping fruit today. Just the fact that we are talking about his life and the impact he had on the world is a testimony to way God used him than and is using him now.

When we look at Paul, we may be tempted to think that he was some kind of super saint. We may feel that there is no possible way that the Lord could use us like He did Paul, or that God could even use us at all. I suppose that we all feel inferior and unworthy to be used of the Lord in His work, but I am here today to tell you that Jesus can and will use you if you will make yourself available.

Some of you may have asked the question, "Can God really use my life?" The short answer to your question is, "God can use your life!"

YOUR PAST CONDITION IS NO OBSTACLE-
Regardless of what you did before you received Jesus as your Savior, that does not matter anymore. When He saved your soul, He washed your past away forever! It is just as though you got a brand new start at that precise moment. In fact, the Bible refers to that event as a "new birth", John 3:3; 7. ( I always come back to ....well God can't use me in the town I grew up in, since too many people know me as who I use to be) That is a lie from the pits of HELL!)

YOUR PRESENT CIRCUMSTANCES ARE NO OBSTACLE
Paul was on his way to Damascus to find Christians to arrest and to take them to their deaths. He was filled with hatred and wanted nothing more than to completely destroy anyone or anything connected with the name of Jesus Christ. But, in spite of all this, the Lord was able to change this man and to use him for the glory of God. Let me remind you that He can do the same thing in your life and mine. He can take us, with all the baggage that we carry, and He can use us for His glory - just a few to think about
Moses was 80 years old ,The Gadarene Demoniac, Mark 5:1-20, was a man feared by everyone, Kings 7:1-10 tells the story of four lepers who became the unlikely Saviors of Jerusalem.
Present circumstances did not catch the Lord by surprise! He knows everything there is to know about us, Heb. 4:13.
He knows where you are, Job 23:10.
And, He still can use your life if it is yielded to him for His glory.
The secret lies in putting Romans 12:1-2 into practice!

Are you willing to be used by the Lord? (He won't force you to serve Him. He may make you wish you had, but He will never force you into anything. You must come to the place where you are willing for the Lord to use you.)

I know it has been a while but this will be worth the wait-These are a few of my notes from a sermon I have been working on for the last few weeks but felt like I needed to share it today-

2 Timothy 1:8-11 8Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own ^(J)purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, 10 but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher.

If you could receive a call this morning from anybody of your choice, who would he or she be? Why would you want to talk to that person? Our God- also calls you and me, and how we respond to His call is critical.

God has been calling since the beginning of time.

Old Testament examples: Adam and Eve, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Samuel, Isaiah, Jeremiah
New Testament examples: John the Baptist, Jesus’ disciples, people who heard the Gospel, the apostle Paul

The Part That Hit Me Last Night

The Call to Salvation- My new friend Luke from the XL

This is God’s first call to each of us (Matt. 11:28, 32; 1 Tim. 6:12).
On the Cross, Christ paid our sin debt that God might justify you and me and make us His children.

The Call to Sanctification- A friend at the Alter at WRBC Sunday AM

It’s God’s will that we should lead a sanctified life (1 Thess. 4:3).
“Sanctified” doesn’t mean “sinless.” It means “walking with God,” or “separated unto God.”
Surrender your life to the Lord. This surrender is a one-time event and a continuous process.

The Call to Service- Jarrod spent an hour pouring his heart into this one!

We have been saved for good works (Eph. 1:8-9).
When you trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you gave up all rights to yourself.

It is a call by the sovereign, holy God.
My response, whether yes or no, affects me immediately.
It affects my eternal destiny (Matt. 22:14).
God called me before I was born (Gal. 1:15; Eph. 1:4-5).
God’s call is irrevocable, no matter how tough life gets.

We will have to give an account for how we lived our lives (1 Cor. 3:12-16).
We will be rewarded for the mundane tasks that no one else knew we did.
He’s going to reward us on the basis of how much truth we heard, how much opportunity we had, and what we did with it. (this is what grabbed me today!)

Have you answered the call about your eternal destiny, the call to salvation? If so, are you willing to tell God that you want Him to have His way in your life? To answer His call is everything; to refuse it is disastrous. I have met 3 people in the last 2 days that have been living a complete LIE- The world knows they are not perfect but had no idea they were not Christians- They had no idea they were on there way to an eternity separated from Jesus- You would have never known it....

Stop kidding yourself- take a moment, Get it settled! Call me and Ill be happy to help you with it. I just know there are hundreds of Romans confused and missing out! It really doesn't matter what you tell your friends and family- God knows your Heart but... Does he Know you? (as a Child of His)

Will he know you on the day that matters?

15 Years

Susan and I will be taking off today to enjoy our 15th anniversary. We met in 1988 at her home in West Rome while I was here on Vacation with my parents- I went there and thought I was going to an old friends home that had moved. Little did I know that God had bigger plans for me that day. Susan didn't come to the door- She did how ever meet me at my friends house later that day, see she had a friend living with her at the time that was seriously dating my friend Keith. Susan and Janet showed up at Keith's house later that day. Susan brought me a photo with her number on the back and it said "stay in touch". After a movie that night we knew it was "Love at First Sight".

That was June 1988- We were married 5 years later here in Rome after she graduated from Berry!
15 years later she is still my "Big Sue" (funny how a gal 5 foot nothing and 98 pounds gets the name "Big Sue")

I love you Girl- Thank you for 15 Wonderful years!

What a Day!

Today I was able to take the Lord's Supper to some of our Home Bound. I was able to spend time with one of the sweetest couples I believe I have ever met, Byron and Mary H. I was able to hear him share from his heart about the meaning of "church"-
They told me how bad they miss being able to worship with the Church Family, they told me how much they miss the small group they were a part of, they also told me how deeply they miss hearing the choir and congregational music! We had a sweet time in the Word reading in Luke (The Lord's Supper) then we partook of the elements.

I didn't hear a single negative word about anything church or community related!!

Not a peep. They simply miss Worshiping the Lord with their Church Family on a weekly basis!! Today I saw God in a precious way, I saw the true meaning of unconditional love and the true meaning of fellowship.
Thank you for allowing me to serve them in such a meaningful way that richly blessed their hearts. I received so much from serving!!

What a great week!

First- Praise God for the work He is doing at WRBC and the calling of Jarrod as our pastor! We are in for some great things in the future. God is blessing us in so many ways and he will reward our faithfulness. He wants to do so many things if we would just allow Him-

Secondly- What a great time we had at Xl Sunday night- Jarrod asked me to share a message with our congregation on Small Groups. I was honored to be able to share from my heart how Small Groups can grow us as people and as a congregation! Craig also shared his vision on the effectiveness of groups and was very excited at the response we had with people signing up to be a part in this ministry.

2 Things-

Trust God that when He says he will take care of something that He will in fact do just exactly what He said He will do.
Obey what He tells you to do in every situation!

This weekend I was so ready to get in the flesh 2 times- (well okay 200 times but for this example just 2 times) Satan will attack where he thinks he can claim victory- Be strong and Obey what the Lord tells you in your time with Him. These things that can bring you harm He will use for good- Remember how Satan works? He comes seeking to destroy! He comes as a thief in the night- like a Lion!

When your faced with a trial or a mountain as the Word proclaims- just remember to cast your cares on Him, let Him take care of the problem or issue that seems to be an attack from Satan- Who has the right to evoke vengeance? God and God alone. No matter how good of a job you think you can do- Leave it to God!

Yea- It has been one of those weeks- He is still attacking our family, the good news is......were grounded in Christ Jesus who is stronger and more than able!

Look how beautiful she is!

Prom started early with Miss Monique fixing her hair. Then Photos at home and Berry followed by a romantic dinner at Bistro on Broad- she had a Cesar since she knew what it was- the menu was in another language I think!

Prom was fun she said...... I gave her an open curfew and she was perfectly on time with the "time" I had in mind, without even telling her when she should return.

So we decided to get a new ride- My gas expense was out of control in the Avalanche! We decided on the 08 Mini-Cooper, Gas mileage is GREAT!! Enough about that-

Tiffany sent us an e-mail last week and told us she would be praying for us- She knew that as soon as you step out and follow God that Satan has his way messing with everything you do!
Little did I know rumors were already out there about how I Worship- Silly stuff like babbling in unknown tongues and flopping round the floor at church- ALL OF IT FALSE as you well know, non the less I knew it was just an attack from Satan trying to quiet my Worship-

Yesterday afternoon I got a call from work needing me in Carrollton, so I hop in the MINI after a FUNNY lunch with Jarrod, Gina, Craig and Wes at the Mex-Place on East Main St. I'm almost to Breman on 27 South and BOOM- my drivers side rear window is SHOT out! Just 4-6 inches from my head!! Talk about scared- So I'm telling Susan all about it and she tells me that I was laid on her heart that morning more so than any other day and she just had been praying for a hedge of protection around me and my travels that day-
THANK GOD FOR A PRAYING WIFE-& TRUE FRIENDS that not only say they are praying for you but are! Praying with PASSION- Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for praying for our ministry and our protection. Thank you for your TRUE LOVE and FRIENDSHIP.

Friends, here's the deal- Life is short! We never know when our time will be. Be about His work. Don't get caught up in what we call Life, get caught up in some Jesus!

Friday Follow Up

We were called to Preach @ 6 pm Friday night, so we pull into the parking lot about 5 till 6- pouring down rain- So we run into the Pastor in the church van and he said "yea....we'll start at 7 tonight....." off to Starbucks we go- So at 7 were there and ready to go. They decide to go on and eat- someone went for "Taco-Bell".....so we ate. 7:45'ish.....I am introduced and we started the service- Just The Right Size" we were so blessed that night to have been in the presence of Jehovah! He allowed me to speak His Truths to about 50- maybe a few less but not that numbers matter because one of the Pastors children gave up her size- She traded it in to Jesus and was SAVED. Another lady and young man experienced God that night as well as a New Decision for Christ! We prayed over sickness and rejoiced over all that God had done.

As an answer to prayer.... I was asked to Preach at a youth conference here in Rome. I will be preaching about how Satan always knows exactly how to tempt you with "just the right type"....of junk. Thank you for supporting us in prayer- please continue to do so- We know God wants to use us in full time ministry and were just following His lead!

This is the best way I know how to explain how I feel. You take the any child that has every toy in the world and a pocket full of money, put them in front of toys R us and tell them you cant go in there..........Yet!- Get the picture?

So I am the Kid- I have everything in the world a man could ever want or need- A great wife, excellent children, a wonderful loving family, a good job, a fantastic mentor (Jarrod), and a host of Godly friends- However, my toy store is serving God full time on staff. The KEY word in all of this is YET!

Pray for us as a family that we are doing everything God has called us to do as He prepares our family to serve Him further.

So- Now that our bi-laws vote is over, what in the world do we do? I have a few ideas for you to think about. The vision has been cast for you- Jarrod without a doubt has been called by God to serve here in Rome GA as our Pastor.
Let me go a step or two further for you. He has also knows God has called him to minister to the Jews and Gentiles- (believers and the lost) and mature us as Christians so that we can be an effective witness for Christ.

So where do you fit into all of this? If he has been called to Minister then you my friend have been called to serve.

Serve in the Choir
Serve in the Children's Ministry
Serve in the Youth
Serve our Senior Adults
Serve with Visitation
Serve as a Greeter
Serve by Praying
Serve by hosting a Small Group either Sunday morning our during the week
Serve @ XL- There will be MANY SMALL GROUPS in need of a leader very soon!
Serve with your tithe and offerings......trust me on this one- The Church that reaches Rome will HAVE TO BE A GENEROUS CHURCH!!!!

In short ....... Please find a place to plug in and serve. From this point forward failure to act is direct disobedience to God- We have prayed a long time for God to take us to the next level and were almost there! Plug in and get ready.

Pray for God to show you ways to go above and beyond what you are currently doing. Pray for God to show you several Christian couples to invite to church- Pray all the time for God to put you in front of lost people. Share Jesus with them- Trust me there are a lot more lost than we think. Just look at your own family and co-workers. Don't assume they know Jesus- Ask them, they will tell you!

In our life's we rarely have a moment that we can recall that was just so so. If there was a bad time in your life you can remember it like it was last night- If it was a great time you know it stays in the front of your mind! If someone "goes blind", they may not be able to "see' today but you know they can remember yesterday.....At least they can remember what the sunset looks like. There are some people that only know confusion- they have never seen the sunset- they can't conceive anything positive since nothing positive has ever happened-(since birth)Why would you want to be STUCK in a rut? Prayer will get you out of the rut- you'll get a break through only when you seek God and be in prayer about your situation. Just be around people that can lift you in prayer- I promise you prayer will bring you out!
There are days you need lifting up and encouraged- there are days when you don't even need to answer e-mails or phone calls that breed trouble- some times you just need to be all about the prayer! What do you do when your stuck in between good times and bad times? Have you ever felt like Life was passing you by? Pray yourself out of it! Satan has a way of making you feel comfortable in Rutville- that is his job! Did you know that you get what you expect?

God always puts you in the right place at the right time to get what you need- Peter and John said look on us. (Acts) Do you want to be able to say I can handle it now-You must have had a break through to get to those words- The bible said they looked on them to expect something to happen. Provoke God to move.....You better expect to receive!

Friends were about to BREAK THROUGH- We are about to see AMAZING THINGS around us. Be blessed today- Know God can! Know God will. Know God heals. Know God desires you to yearn for Him. Know God desires your all. Know God died so that you didn't have to. Bottom line- Celebrate Victory in Christ Jesus- It's expected of you!!

I didn't want to post about this but the more I thought about it the more I knew I had to tell you all about it.

It started just after small group Thursday night. a phone call from Kim Wright.....Hey Mark- Some of us are going to go and pray over Jarrod- I'll let you know when were leaving. I was ready! when I got there I saw 20 or more people on there knees and standing around lifting up prayers for Jarrod and his family- I found myself on my knees and face within 5 min.

After a while(Jarrod never knew we were there) we decided we needed to go to every Elders home and do the same thing.

What a great night- I know who the prayer warriors are- I can tell you this God gave me a vision-

In the next few months-I firmly believe that God will began to complete a great work he started a few years ago as he has been maturing Jarrod and preparing Tiffany to support a full time pastor. In his ministry we will reach thousands for the Kingdom. God is going to raise up many leaders sold out for souls!

So the last few weeks I have had many phone calls and e-mails about what may or may not be going on at WRBC. just to clear up any confusion......

I am not "in the know" at WRBC.
I do not have any insight on where we are going or what changes are or are not being made.
I am not an Elder.
I do not have the insiders track on information.
I do not believe in the charismatic movement many churches are involved in, this I do know neither does our Staff or Elders.

A friend called me today and asked what is "dancing w/ coin...."or something similar.

I had to ask, what in the world are you talking about. He said a lot of people saw it on your blog....so you know me, I went to my blog to try and find it. Well you guessed it, NOT ON HERE!

I have never even heard such a phrase. He said many people think WRBC is joining the charismatic movement since I wrote about seeing a man praying in tongues one Sunday morning. Listen to me- The Bible is very clear about the speaking in tongues- I do not have the Gift of being able to speak another language, John the Baptist in Acts 19:6. All spoke in different languages, and that, without having asked for it! The tongues at the beginning of the Christian era were real languages that could be verified. Today, those who pretend to speak in languages (tongues) do not know what language they speak nor what they say. Sometimes they try to justify themselves by saying that they are speaking in the tongues of angels (because nobody can check this).

What I saw was a man praying to god in another tongue- This is very biblical in my opinion. He was not speaking to the crowd he was praying to God his Father.

If you are here on the site to "find out" whats going on- you may be let down. This is a site devoted to keeping family and friends informed on the events in "our" lives.
I am not interested in political conversation concerning rumors. My job as a Deacon of the church is to quiet these things so please help me do so!
If.......a big IF. If you want to know what is going on, come and visit. Come and worship. Come see for yourself how we are impacting the Kingdom. But please...leave the poor spirit and the nonsense at the door, ask believing for God to allow you to worship Him.
There is a meeting Tuesday @ the Well. This would be a great time for you to ask those in the KNOW what changes in the by laws mean.

Please understand my spirit. I am VERY excited about the future of Rome GA and our Southern Baptist church, West Rome. I am very excited to see God allowing us to share the Word in such an effective manner that we are seeing many come to know Him. I am very excited to see tremendous growth in an interim phase. Only God could do this. I pray today that you too will be able to experience God in these very exciting times.

We are close to the end my friends- Prophesy is being fulfilled all around us! Be ready. Be about Kingdom work. Don't be caught on the day of His second coming not doing His work! Find lost people, invest in them, share the word of God with them! Feed the hungry, cloth the naked, help the widows, invest in the orphans. Go be Jesus today!

What an End to the Week

So I had to be in ATL Friday night for the SEC game for work-
( Some of the Doc's I work with were attending a conf. at the Westin downtown Thurs, Fri & Sat.)
Thank goodness I chose to stay for all of Christina's Birthday party- If I had not stayed I would have been checking into the Westin at the same time the Tornado ripped Downtown Up!!
So I drove up Saturday AM for the last 4 Hours of the conf, what a wast of time- The city looked like a war zone-
On my way home from ATL I drove through 2 yes 2 more Tornado's- One in Cherokee Co, GA and the other was the last part of the Deadly storm in Floyd and Polk Co, GA-

Looking forward to seeing you at the XL- that is if I feel better!!

So what is the truth about the church in America today? To be sure, there are people and churches who love Christ and His work, who sacrifice for His cause, and who are devoted to His ways. BUT, the picture of the church in America as a whole is sobering.
(random google stats-you know what thay say about ststs don't you?)
• In proportion to the U.S. population, there are less than half as many churches today as there were in 1900.
• Roughly 4,000 churches are started each year—while 7,000 die and close their doors.
• In 1991, 21 percent of all adults were unchurched. In 2002, 34 percent fit that description.
• The United States is the fourth largest unchurched nation in the world (behind China, India, and Indonesia).
• The average number of adults attending a Protestant church is 90. This represents a 10 percent decline from 1997 and a 12 percent decline since 1992.

Statistically, our churches in America are not doing well. In fact, research shows that the church around the world is growing three times faster than the population rate, the church in the U.S may be losing ground.Thus The Need for Revival
And what about the real question of the church's impact on society (more so in Rome)?
Does anyone really believe that our culture is more like Christ than it was 10 years ago?

Many Christians believe that we are in a "moral free fall" and that society is to blame. I, however, agree with Henry Blackaby, who said, "If society as a whole seems to be getting darker and darker, it is not the problem of the darkness: the darkness is just acting like its nature. But it is that the light no longer dispels the darkness, and the salt no longer preserves. It's time for the light to say, ‘if things are darker, the problem is with us.'"
Perhaps the clearest illustration of this point is what occurred in the church after September 11. Immediately following the tragedy, church attendance spiked. What was the outcome of this unprecedented opportunity? As one researcher commented, "Millions of nonChristians went to churches after September 11 looking for something which they did not possess, only to leave, not finding what they were looking for."
In other words, when nonChristians came into contact with Christians, there was not enough that was compellingly different about us, our lives, or our worship to keep them and draw them to Jesus. We and our churches have become like the world. The only thing that separates many churches from a Rotary Club or Civic group is religious-sounding words and activities.

A local church is simply a reflection of her members. A denomination or fellowship is simply the sum of the churches in that group. If the people are drifting from an intimate relationship with Christ (and they are-just watch Oprah any day of the week) the church will by definition do the same. That's why we need revival.

It is up to us to react to a service like we had Sunday. When you ask God to be welcome in our service be ready to worship Him. Be ready to take Him with you to work, school or wherever your going. The world.....Rome, GA is looking at you wondering if you have what they are missing. Do Not Allow Oprah and her false teachings to happen around you. What sounds better, your testimony or the world? What looks better, Your life with Christ or the world? My friends for revival to happen it has to start with us.

2 Corinthians 4:14- For we know that He who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will raise us also to be with Jesus, and will cause both us and you to stand in His own presence.

I have never seen anything even close to the Day of Pentecost, I have never seen a blind man see again, I have never seen the dead arise- Until today!

I was able to see Jesus do all kind of things this morning- people that were blind to the Word saw Jesus today, People that were dead in Christ Stood in His Presence today, because of a thousand or so standing with Jesus a revival will occur.

I saw one man Wail for an hour straight speaking to God in toungs, I saw another man Dancing and Jumping for Jesus and I myself Laughed during the entire service.

Soon- a day will come, a day many have been praying for, a day that will forever change the way you worship God.

Will it be enough?

The world (your co-workers and friends) is crying out for something more. People seek satisfaction for their souls & personal gratification through many things, but ultimately its only God our Creator through Jesus who can give it. People need the Lord today. But people need to see that the Lord is real.

We are called by God to be living testimonies of God's reality. Jesus said, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe" (John 4:48).

We should to be able to see from this just how important the manifestation of signs and wonders before unbelievers is. There are some people who will never believe in Jesus until they see and/or experience God's signs and wonders for themselves. But God will do these signs through people of faith.(i.e you)

My question for you is this- If you are the only sign and wonder your friends will ever see, will it be enough to convince them they are missing something in their life? Will it be enough to for them to desire a relationship with the Jesus? Will they believe?

Early Morning Thought-

I woke up way to early this morning to make my commute to Emory to cover a few cases in the O.R. I get up that early to beat the rest of the people trying to cram into the city! Before they make a mess of the day by jacking up the freeway (because they can't drive) I try to get there early so I can be prepared and alert. (that's a good thing)

So I couldn't help but relate it to quiet time and prayer time. Many times I reflect on the fact that Jesus woke up early- He wanted to meet with His Father before anything else! He wanted to give his Father His "First".

Think about it with me- If we spend quality time with God first this gives Him a chance to help us be prepared for the day, to help us be alert, to help us get ahead of todays traffic(i.e. LIFE) before we jack it all up!

At this critical time in the history of the world, the New Gospel/New Spirituality is coming right at the world and the church with its New Age teachings and its New Age Peace Plan. But this New Age Peace Plan has at its deceptive core the bottom-line teaching from A Course in Miracles that “we are all one” because God is “in” everyone and everything. But the Bible is clear that we are not God (Ezekiel 28:2; Hosea 11:9). And per Galatians 3:26-28, our only oneness is in Jesus Christ—not in ourselves as “God” and “Christ.”
What Oprah and Marianne Williamson and the world will learn one day is that humanity’s only real and lasting peace is with the true Jesus Christ who is described and quoted in the Holy Bible (Romans 5:1).
Oprah Winfrey’s misplaced faith in Marianne Williamson and the New Age teachings of A Course in Miracles is a sure sign of the times.
But an even surer sign of the times is that most Christians are not taking heed to what is happening in the world and in the church. We are not contending for the faith as the Bible admonishes us to do (Jude 3).
It is time for all of our CHURCHES-Purpose-Driven & Emerging church pastors to address the real issue of the day.

Our true Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is being reinvented, redefined, and blasphemed right in front of our eyes and hardly anyone seems to notice or care.
If we want the world to know who Jesus Christ is, we need to also warn them about who He is not. There is a false New Age “Christ” making huge inroads into the world and into the church.
The Apostle Paul said that “it is a shame” we have to even talk about these things, but talk about them we must (Ephesians 5:12-16).

This is what Oprah is teaching the world in New Age follower :

“There is no sin. . . " 9 [See note]
A “slain Christ has no meaning.”10
“The journey to the cross should be the last ‘useless journey.”11
“Do not make the pathetic error of ‘clinging to the old rugged cross.’”12
“The Name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol... It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray.”13
“God is in everything I see.”14
“The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself.”15
“The oneness of the Creator and the creation is your wholeness, your sanity and your limitless power.”16
“The Atonement is the final lesson he [man] need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation.”17

Who is suffering? Who is in a struggle? Why would God do this to me? Why did God let this happen? How can a true loving God allow me to go through this?

Let me go ahead and tell you Suffering Sucks! But........... Here we go...
(God gave this to me this morning after a conversation Susan and Meme about a family member and the more I thought about it it fits all of us in one way or another.)

Suffering is undesirable for obvious reasons, but it's still necessary because:We are resistant to change. We will only grow up if we're forced.It helps us keep our bearings (it reminds us to pray).Through suffering we can identify with Christ.

1 Pet. 3:13-17 Suffering for the sake of Christ

"And who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled, 15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; 16 and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17 For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong."

Christ also suffered! The Lord understands what we go through, because He already walked the way before us. Not only that, He understands what we go through because He goes through it all over again with each one of us.
At this point it would do us good to remember why Christ suffered. He suffered for me! Is it not fitting then that I should get to suffer for Him?

We share His sufferings.
Colossians 1:24 gives us an idea to think about and encouragement for us as well:
"Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church."
There seems to be a sense in which we get the "leftovers" of the Lord's afflictions!
Because we share in His sufferings we can reap the benefits(2 Corinthians 1:5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows)
The life of Jesus manifest in us (2 Corinthians 4:10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

God is glorified
We like credit for what we accomplish. We like recognition for what we suffer.(Like our FAST) But what should really compel us to joy in suffering is the fact that God receives glory when His people distinguish themselves under persecution. "On your part he is glorified."

I know some of you are not use to Floyd getting deep- However since my Fast God has charged me to become a servant of the Gospel- Eph 3:7 Of which I was made a minister, according to the gift of God's grace which was given to me according to the working of His power.

When we suffer
We should first check our self to see if we are being disciplined.
In 1 Cor 11:27-32 Paul describes 3 stages of discipline, from easy to hard and tells us to "judge ourselves, that we be not judged". Then, if we know we are not out of God's will, we can accept the suffering as for a purpose, and from our loving Heavenly Father.

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thess 5:18.9. Rejoice! The happiest we can be as a child of God can be is "in fellowship" and centered in God's will.
No matter what, our future is bright.
God, who has called us, after we have suffered a while, (according to His will) will in due time, make us mature, established, strengthened, and settled, 1 Pet 5:6-10

There is some really good news for you -There is no suffering for God's people in eternity: Rev 21:4.

I don't know what you are going through or what God is teaching you but I do know that He has a plan for your life that is better than your plan for your life ( I stole that from Jarrod, actually it is a REAL BIBLE VERSE Jeremiah 29: 11 While you may not understand all the twists and turns of life, you can be sure of one thing: the same God who created you loves you and has an awesome plan for your future. )

Time to cut the shrubs

New believers class reminded me of this so I needed to Blog it today-
(isn't is crazy how God has a word for everyone-I was teaching on the very basics of Christ and he gives "me" this to ponder about myself.)

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." John 15:1-2

I don't like being cut-back or pruned. It's a process that doesn't feel so good. It requires relinquishing myself to God and allowing him to do in my life what he see's as best in order for me to produce a more abundant amount of fruit. I fight against the process. I grieve my "losses." Simply put, I like getting my own way and I have an agenda in mind that I want to keep!Yet, I know that if I submit myself to God's pruning, I will look back one day and recognize where he has taken me and that it was good.
It's just so hard in the moment!Surrender is so difficult, but when I look at it logically, I'm not in control of anything anyway. I simply think I am.
God's ways will happen regardless of if I surrender to him or not. Surrendering is really about me aligning myself with his will and saying, "Yes, God, I desire your ways too. I trust you and know that you know what's best. I will be obedient to you and walk in the path you put before me."So, logically, I know the truth above, but I still struggle against it.
I almost need to return to the truth every hour, or even every minute in order to remind myself. It is a process. A life-long one. One that I can't even do on my own. Even in this I need to give over to God and allow him to do his work in me. And God, I'm willing. I want you to come in me and change my mind in order to align it with your will.
Place the desire in me to give up my own agenda and give me the desire to be obedient to yours. Prune me back like the shrub bush, so that in my season, I will give off a beautiful fragrance from abundant flowers.

Maybe God is pruning something in you right now. He may be doing it through circumstances you find yourself in, through an inner prompting during prayer or time spent reading your Bible, or in the counsel of another Christians.
Hang on to him, even when you don't understand. Ask him for his direction — and obey him when you receive it. Believe that he knows what is best for you and is leading you according to his will. Submit to the pruning: one day you will be healthier and bear more fruit because of it.

Do you have a specific role within the Church- Has God given you a Gift to use that you have not started doing yet?
In order for us to have a Revolution, each of us must be using our Gifts. When we are all doing what God has called us to do he can use us in a glorious way!

Paul reminded us that "all the members do not have the same function" (Romans 12:4). He said that we indeed are one body, but we are many members, and we are "individually members one of another" (Romans 12:5). We have differing gifts (or abilities), and while one person's ability may be that of teaching, another's ability may be that of serving. One may have a special ability in leadership, and another may have that special knack for tenderness at the hospital bed. Whatever the gift, the expectation is that it be used

The organization of the church is seen in Ephesians 4:11, 12. "And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ." Some have the ability to proclaim the gospel to the lost, and God uses their ability in the evangelistic work of the church. Some have leadership ability and can serve as shepherds of the flock. Some have the ability to teach, and the whole church will forever stand in need of instruction. All of these works are intended to equip the saints (Christians) for the work of service, in order that the body of Christ might be strengthened.

If your ability lies in the areas just mentioned, then by all means use your talent to the glory of God. Many Christians have the ability to teach, and the church will need teachers as long as the world stands. Children must be taught!! It is a joy to walk into the classrooms of our teachers and hear "the walls talking" with the products of their creative ability. Christians who have the ability to teach, unless hindered by other circumstances, should exercise that ability in the church.

There are times when church work means hard work. Sometimes it is the baking of a goodies for someone in need. Sometimes it's writing of a note of encouragement. Sometimes it's seeing a job that needs to be done and doing it. Be assured that God has a place for you in the church.
Don't wait for someone to ask you to do it. Find your place of service and give God the strength of your whole being. He expects no less.

A Simple Test! A New Years Challenge

A few weeks ago in my Small Group for XL, I asked our group to try something new and you wont believe what happened next!!!

The bible says in Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

1. I threw out the challenge to Tithe- I went out on a limb and said if God didn't bless it I would pay the tithe back to them......Thank goodness God don't lie!!

2. One of our families did tithe for the month and low and behold.....$$$$ money showed up in the mailbox! It was over $200. That alone was more than the tithe they gave! The cool part was that God wasn't finished- He wanted to pour out his blessings on them so......he gave them an unexpected pay raise as well!

This New Year I am asking all of you to "Test God in this" Bring your tithe to XL or your church and watch God Bless you like crazy!! (remember blessings aren't always in the dollar form!! Make a journal entry of when you start tithing and journal every time you receive a blessing- This will be so cool to see our people blessed so much that they won't have enough room to store all his blessings!

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us."
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."
When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written: "'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'" Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him."
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him."
So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son."
When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."
After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead."
So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene."

Today we continue a time honored tradition of watching our children make Christmas Cookies! I will have a few pictures for you in a little while. Our kids have made cookies with Meme since they were babies- Sugar Cookies with frosting.....Yummy!

What a great crowd we had Thursday night with our new XL Small group-15 people here to learn about what Jesus can do in our lives if we Trust in him and have Faith without doubt- It is a series with Max Lucado through the book of James- It was OUTSTANDING I got phone calls from couples in the group telling me how cool it was to hear their spouse talk about Jesus.

Looking forward to celebrating the birth of Christ Jesus! Happy Birthday Jesus

You would think I would be writing about "the vote"- naaaa! Remember God went before us- He knows what he is going to do there! Tesa graduates today so it's off to Berry then the apartment to have some burgers. It has been so good having her here with us these last few years- (Tesa is our adopted College Student from WRBC- )

So I'm at the Sonic this morning getting Burritos and the girl says; "So you know Jarrod?" I want to ask you a question that may hurt- Have you formed a relationship with anyone that takes you 6-10 generations deep yet? Do any of your friends pull into a business and say hey your so-and -so's friend. I know this is really out there but do you really think he likes the Sonic that much? Okay maybe but he, ...Jarrod, is there to form relationships with a lost and dying world that is eager to hear about -what in the world is so different about him- the difference is.........That's right you guessed it, Jesus.

Go! Go get you a Sonic! Wherever it is tell them about Jesus and the ministry your passionate about.

Are you Ready?

No- I mean- Are YOU ready? God has so many things he wants to do for us and through us! The one thing he continuously tells me is to be ready. Many times in life we get caught up in the flow and ho-hum of the day that we fail to hear what God is telling us to do! Just for the record, I am convinced that God is ready to use "us" for a great and mighty task. Prepare your heart, ask him to confirm and or show you in your life how you can be ready to follow his will. Did you know that in this past week I have been able to confirm so many things in my prayer life with other Godly men and women(The exact things had been revealed to them). I must tell you that not too many times in my life do I get to see God that clear.

Thanksgiving

Wow- What a weekend. I hope you have enjoyed your family and friends this Thanksgiving! The past few weeks Susan and I have had the honor to teach a new believers class on Tuesday night. Every week we get such a blessing mentoring these couples and having the opportunity to share how good Jesus can be. We are reminded of how simple the Gospel is intended to be. Please continue to pray that God continues to enrich these couples- were talking about brand new believers. Baby steps into the life we have been living for years. We are reminded each week of how cool God is!

Georgia vs. Georgia Tech- This will be a great game! I can't wait to see if my beloved Dawgs will get to play in the SEC Championship game at the GA Dome, for this to occur, Tennessee need to loose to Kentucky! Go Wild Cats.....

XL joins thousands of Romans at the anual Business Expo!

The booth was slick- We had a video of the year in review playing in the background and the stage set with a red rug ( go UGA) and two of our black leather chairs. I tried to register a few for our Bug give away.....knowing full well that's to be done 12/02/07 at XL-

We broke all barriers this week at XL. You will have to view the video Monday afternoon! The gospel was offered in a.......unique way! Had it not been for the fear of death without Christ, I'll leave the rest for you to wonder about and to watch on video!

Praise God for 6 salvations. This means people invited friends they knew needed to hear about Jesus, the Gospel was Preached and Lives were Forever Changed- Glory to God!

It is far from over- It has just started and a new passion ignited in everyone in attendance!
You will see people inviting co-workers and family like crazy! I pray we out grow out of our building next Sunday as we impact the Kingdom of God here in Rome GA.

Don't be afraid to ask that co-worker that you say is a great person if they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Don't be afraid to tell them XL is a unique place! Don't try to cover up what God is doing with watered down descriptions of our service- The Bible says to tell people about Jesus and that is exactly what we are doing! EVERY SUNDAY!!

As I said......You ain't seen nothing yet- God is Fired Up! He is Rejoicing in Heaven! He is at work in our midst. Go meet 5 people that you know needs Jesus- If everyone did this based on 200 XL'rs we would have close to 1000 next Sunday (you know everyone wont come-so don't get disappointed) and 5,000 in 2 weeks and 25,000 in a few months- Wouldn't this be exciting????
The Bible says in Acts 2 vs:40 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

I challenge you to get excited about Jesus and to reach out to the Lost and Dying. Remember in Hell there will be plenty of your "Good People" - (Friends and Co-Workers) Ask them about Jesus- Get intentional! Aren't they worth it?

Speachless Sunday Morning

Today during worship I would try to sing and The Holy Spirit said Pray- I was saying but I love to sing, He said Pray! Little did I know...... So turned to Jarrod and said we are in for a treat today- Jarrod snickered, again little did I know that 80% of our church family would be on their faces within 10 minutes.

It's good to know that God has a special way of getting you ready for worship isn't it!

Coosa Valley Flu.....I mean Fair

Mark my words- Someone we know will have the stomach bug by the time I re-post! Every year this marks the peek season of viral outbreaks!!

So we went today and I really agree with Jarrod. No matter what event you attend in Rome you see a totally different crowd. I also know now more than ever there are more than enough times we can share Jesus! There was a vendor offering Spiritual insights, don't get me wrong there insights... just not to spiritual unless you think a fat Buddha can get you someplace other than the fair? There were numerous obviously lost couples in the 25 yro range dragging 2-3 kids and they thought they were in heaven because there were prizes and candy apples. Hows about our XL band playing a free concert at next years fair?? Let's put it before the creative team.

I saw A.Hembree cooking up some eats at the Schools burger stand- Gotta eat a corn dog now... Speaking of dawgs.... we got KILLED by UT I bet Stone wears a Tennessee tie Sunday!!!

FYI: A witness is someone who has firsthand knowledge about a crime or dramatic event through their senses (e.g. seeing, hearing, smelling, touching) and can help certify important considerations to the crime or event. A witness who has seen the event firsthand is known as an eye-witness. Witnesses are often called before a court of law to testify in trials.

Can you relate this to sharing Christ- You know first hand what he has done in your life. Does your neighbor know what HE has done in your life- Does your waitress know, does your co-worker know? Are you a WITNESS- It's more than attending. "Witnesses are often called before a group of Peers to testify as to what Jesus has done in their life."
